Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Good audition song for Hairspray? Please help!?

Question:I am a 17 year old guy singing tenor looking for a good broadway audition piece for the musical Hairspray that I am auditioning for. I need help finding a good audition piece. Solo with accompaniest, but would like to use a previous broadway/musical song. I'm trying out for Link so preferably something that will show similarities to Zac Efron.

If you have any ideas it would be soooooo helpful. Thanks!

Here's what I have so far:
I can do that - Chorus Line
Will I? - Rent
Another Day - Rent
Bet On It - HS Musical
Oh What a night - Jersey Boys

If you have any suggestions I really need some help or give input to the ones above.

If you have a vocal coach, ask him which of these songs shows your voice to its best. A good song will let you hit your "money" note (the highest note you can belt really well), and will also allow you to show character development as well--very important in musical theatre. I would avoid any song from Jersey Boys--it seems to me that's a show that directors would hear frequently, and you want to stand out at an audition--not be the 15th kid who sang "Oh What a Night."

Hope this helped.

I would say something in a similar vein, but not from the show itself, would be one of Danny's songs from Grease.

Dancing through life -Wicked (sung by fiyero)

Those are great songs you chose but I dont think they are goof audition pieces for Hairspray, well all except the Jersey boys one only because i dont know that one. and the HS musical one is good but youy dont want to go to cliche with the whole zac efron thing. Dancing through life is really good from wicked. Purpose from avenue q might work. and if you want to go with romantic comedy which i think would be perfect for this audition
the song Something About You-from Altar boys, dont know it? youtube its soooo funny
hope one of theese works

do not use a song from high school musical because chances are that directors will see u as a wannabe...

You wouldn't want the directors to see you think of Hairspray as "Zac Efron".
If you haven't listened to the REAL Broadway Hairspray soundtrack, you should try that.
Maybe get a better feel for the vocal stylings and whatnot.
I may be 14, but I love to act too ?
I love Legally Blonde the Musical...but the guys songs in there suck.
For a non-musical piece go with, "Love," by Matt White.
I bet you could do it :)
It's a really cute song.
And they might see you as a romantic.
That's gonna come in handy when you gotta kiss that fat girl :)
So look up that song on iTunes.
Alright?
Alright :D
