Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Technical Resume: Upcoming Shows on resume?

Question:Is it acceptible to put an item on a resume that hasn't happened yet? It would be a show I am contracted to do and will be doing. I'm wondering because I need to have an updated resume for a job I am applying for in a theatre. By the time I start the position, I would have these events under my belt as well. So can I put them on my resume as "Upcoming" or something like that? Hopefully someone will be able to set me down the right path here.

I write a lot of different types of resumes but I do believe the answer is somewhat subjective. In my opinion, as long as you are completely straightforward and say something like "currently contracted for ________, an upcoming production beginning in (date)" I think it's ok. In most of the resumes I create, I put a background section which lists the most current information which alerts the prospective employer as the client's feasibility for the position. You could put it in a section like that rather than the area where you list the plays or films you've been in.

Upcoming is a good idea.

Yes, but I think you should call it "in progress," that sounds more certain than "upcoming." Break a leg!

No, you only list productions in which you have actually performed. The cover letter would be the place to mention this production, where you could do so in greater detail, if you want.

Its not unacceptable however, it is not formal either, but there is a lot a value a potential employer can gather from it, just make sure to make it clear that the show has not been produced and when it is scheduled to be produced as well as all the other info about the show.

"In progress" would be acceptable or "In Production Process"
