Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What city in California has Broadway "tryouts" or "previews?"

Question:I know certain city(ies) in California have Broadway "tryouts/previews" where shows perform before they go to Broadway to see how they'll do. So which city/cities? Are tickets avaliable for the public? How would a person get these tickets?

Thanks for any information I can get. I appreciate it!

The Pasadena Playhouse in southern california does these, they do them in San Francsico as well.

Tickets are available just like any other theatre ticket you just have to read the local trades Theatre Bay Area Northern California or Backstage West Southern California to know when they are coming--

San Francisco hosted the original tryout of Evita and recently the tryout of Legally Blonde.

Yes, tickets are available to the general public. My mom saw Legally Blonde and loved it.

The La Jolla (pronounced ho-ya) Playhouse has also had numerous out of town try-outs before a show goes on to Broadway

Both the La Jolla Playhouse, and the Old Globe Theater in San Diego get previews regularly. I saw Harvey Fierstien's new musical "A Catered Affair" in September at the Globe, and a musical version of John Water's "Cry Baby" at the Playhouse in November. Next month I will be seeing Scott Bakula (of Quantum Leap or Enterprise fame) in Dancing in the Dark, a new musical based on the Fred Astaire MGM musical The Band Wagon.
