It's not an agency. It's a school, and a very overpriced one at that.

This is something to remember about businesses. Unless you called them first and they are simply returning your call, any time a business calls YOU, it's to sell you something. In this case it's acting and modeling lessons.

Models don't need lessons, and actors can find lessons for a lot less than the $1500-2000 I've heard quoted.

JRP also uses some very aggressive sales tactics, against which children have almost no defense. The kids are all dying to be famous, or just to be affirmed, and this company makes them believe they have to act fast or they'll lose an actual work opportunity on something like Disney or Nickelodeon---which isn't true because, as I said, these people are not agents and don't do casting for those shows..

Why would an agency call you unless they wanted to sell you something? Of course it is a scam.

I went to a seminar for John Robert Powers and they told me about how much it would cost to post my picture on their site. I wouldn't say it was so much a scam as it is a money drainer. I wouldn't really waste my time with them. Good Luck!

JRP is not a talent agency.

Talent agencies only take a commission on work they've obtained for you and in many states they are restricted by law from accepting advance fees for registration or other services.

JRP is a talent school not an agency. they charge you and you take classes in acting and/or modeling. If they tell you they will get you work or make any promises like that then they are running a scam. Some JRP's are poorly run and are only out for the money while a few of them are actually pretty good but only a few of them. So many people (children their parents) want to break into show business they're willing to spend thousands to try and make that dream come quickly.
Your best bet is to look them up on the Better Business Bureau and see what complaints, if any, they have lodged against them.
check them out thoroughly before you give them any money.
