Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Is porter essential character for Macbeth production ?

Question:The porter serves as comic relief and creates a balance within the play. If done right, it can take the play to another level. If the part is cut, the audience will leave the theatre with a feeling that something was missing.

Shakespeare was a genius and wrote in that role for a specific reason. Don't take away from his genius.

The Porter's lines are hilarious and the person playing the character has so many wonderful opportunities.

I was just in a production as Lady Macbeth and a female dressed as a male played the Porter. It was fantastic!
