Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What is a cattle call audition?

Question:I'm auditioning for a play on Tuesday, and our director refered to the audition as a cattle call. I have a pretty clear idea of what it is, but can someone please explain it in more detail? What should I except when I show up to the audition?

cattle call auditions are when everyone who wants to audition for that play or musical arrives at the same time. I've been to many cattle calls and had to fill in a form with my experience and then my name was called when it was my turn.... sometimes you have to wait for a long time almost all day if you get there late... try to arrive early.
In my experience there are usually 3 or 4 people sitting at a desk watching you. the director, the choreographer, and maybe musical director . It can be very intimidating but don't worry have fun and be yourself. you will love it!!

A cattle call just means an open audition. Anyone who wants to can try out. But then after the cattle call, there's usually a call-back, which is only open to the people who got called back. (obviously)

Good luck!
