Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Help with choosing a stage name, open to agents, actors, etc.?

Question:I am an actor trying to break into the field, but I am stuck at choosing a stage name. My name is Jordan Hagaman. I don't want to use Hagaman for personal reasons., so I need to choose a new last name for my entire career. I can't get headshots printed, can't make a myspace page, or even work on my resume, because I don't know who I will be. Some people suggested using Hagman, like Larry Hagman, (whose original name is Hageman), but I don't want everyone always asking if I'm related to him. I thought maybe using Kirik, or Voss, or Locke, but I'm not set on any of them. I don't have an agent or manager yet, so should I contact someone in the industry to help? The last names we know now, of famous actors, who have changed their name, are they just fluke choices, or is their a major important component to choosing a last name?

Nowadays the only people who change their names are usually those who become union and find out their name is already taken, like if your legal name was Bette Davis or Tom Hanks.

Remember any name you pick will be your calling card, for example my name is Summer and everyone automatically thinks cheery valley girl. But that works for my personality. So whatever you pick you'd better love it.

I liked the name Jordan Locke it sounds good. Maybe go for the Scottish spelling Loch since Jordan is already a common Scottish name.

Look it up and make sure it isn't taken.

Pet's name and street you used to live on as a child.

That always yields fun results.

try somthing like smith or tayor

Few people use stage names nowadays, but if you feel you must when you make a selection, check it with iMDB to make sure no one else is using it. I sugest using Jordan as your last name and find a good first name to go with it, then people can still call you Jordan and you will comfortable answering to it. Ross Jordan? Voss Jordan.
