Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Why Am I So Afraid Of Getting Old?

Question:I'm 18.
I wanna be an actress.
I am a bit vain.
Aging scares me, cause I haven't started acting yet and so many people are younger than me and already superstars. (Like Hannah Montana). I'm scared of getting old. How can I fix this? And how can I feel better?

Your Young Pal. I dream of someday of bieng an actor. I won't give up that fact. We're different, i can't wait till i'm 18 to act, you don't want to think your getting to old too fast. Don't worry, your 18, plenty of time. Don't give up your acting passions, don't let anyone tell you "you won't make it" because you will. Just think to your self, "look at that woman in this program she's 76, like june brown who is dot in eastenders. Your never to old to act, unless of bad problems, so don't worry about age, go for audtitions and you acheive your goals in life.

Never Give Up.

Good Luck. Qeustions - Email Me At Jsmith5657@hotmail.com. YOU WILL MAKE IT.

dress up like an 18 years old, feel like you are 18 and be confident...

1.go to collage
2.make money
3.than peruse acting

Accept the fact you're gonna get old and ugly and die someday. Lol. Seriously just accept it - unless you pull some stupid typical crap like an overdose by age 40.

why worry be happy such things are so trivial,other people not to worry, it's YOU that matters young in mind young at heart.

instead of counting years...we became ageless and timeless...it has worked for me and my group of girlfriends for the last 35 years when we all became friends in our early 20's..and we always celebrate our birthdays with no candles on the cake...embrace life and don't waste any time counting the years going by...

two words"JUDY DENCH"

You admit to vanity, and you understand that youth is highly prized in the ferociously competitive field of acting.

There is no solution if you define success as becoming a successful actress. Even if you could break through (most unlikely), you would continue to live in a dog-eat-dog world of competitiveness.

If you really want to "feel better," come up with a plan b, a plan c, etc. Base them on the person you are. What are your core values? Do you care about other people or only yourself: If you care mostly about yourself, a future of satisfaction with the person you are looks bleak.

If you really want to find a fuller, less competitive, more caring milieu, become a loving person. Borrow or order a copy of Erich Fromm's "The Art of Loving." Note that love is not being someone who is loved and admired by others; it is caring for the well-being of others. If you are up to it, you will have a richer, more rewarding world to explore.

Loving people, young and old, is the best cure for the fear of aging.

Becoming old is getting closer to the final act of dying....that is the way it is.....and all of us are afraid of dying and that is why you are afraid of getting old....but not to worry...we live in an endless and infinite universe and it is the only place a miracle can happen, like you .....and that explains your being here and tells you that you will be you again and again....so not to worry...just let it be....let it be.....

Fix this and feel better;
find out if there is a theatre company/troupe in the city where you live. Phone them up and tell them you are an aspiring actor, and could you visit and is there anyone who could talk with you about how to become an actor.
Then visit the theatre company/troupe, talk to that person, and ask them.

Its better than asking here; because if you seriously ask for any part / any training / to help at the rehearsals etc, you may end up making great contacts.

The key is, you are getting older, so you have to go pursue acting Right Now!

and this is a good way to get started;
there are other ways to get started right now;

the key is FIND SOMEWHERE TO ACT AND START DOING SO!!!
