No. Join a local theater group and learn to act that way.

Nope, but it does help with the "knowing the right people" situation, which is a bloody big help in that proffession!

no you dont. unless you want good characters in things then it is better to go to drama school. really all you have to do to get started is to join an agency. they will make you a portfolio and then productions will notice you and cast you. im 14 and i haven't been to drama school. but im good at acting and ive been in a few things with an agency im in.

hope i helped :)

Simple answer is - no. However, there are some benefits - a better chance of being seen by an agent is just one.
How old are you? How much acting have you done?
Don't forget that at any given time 85 - 90% of the members of British Equity are out of work. Success comes to the incredibly talented and/or the fortunate few.

No you don't. If you know the right people and are in the right place you can very well become an actress. But then you would be an uneducated bimbo wouldn't you?

nope. just do as many shows as you possibly can and you'll learn lots

Not necassariuly, you can be an actress and not have a single amout of education. But then again, you will become a better actor with training:)

No, but it usually helps. You're more likely to be seen by an agent in the end-of-term production, and having an agent is vital if you want to act professionally. Besides, going to drama school can and should be a great experience, not just the means to an end. Go to learn!

Go into the West End, or any professional theatre in the UK and look at a programme. See how many people have been cast in productions with absolutely no training whatsoever. Almost everyone I have worked with has had training of some kind. If not the drama school route, then the university route. You could take your chances by just getting experience in amateur theatre, but you will have to be very determined to make it and have to put up with even more knock backs than a trained actor (unless, of course, you have that very special 'something'). I suspect those who say 'just get an agent' are from the USA. It doesn't work like that here. Agents have to be earned rather than bought. Do you not want to learn the craft properly? Drama school gives you the basic tools, gives you the opportunity to work with professionals (sometimes at the top of their professions) and gives you the starting blocks to launch your career. However you decide to get into the business, good luck.

no, but it will help.
if you dont go to drama school, then join a local theater group and learn that way.

but it does help to know people!
