Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Actress/Actors, is it hard?

Question:I find that whenever I stand on stage or perform in front of an audience I feel so happy, and I love it so much. I try to be involved in all the musicals or plays schools have. Is being an actress hard? I've heard it's a demanding job... what do you think? Is this a possible option for me?

it is hard.
but you know now that you love it.
always have a backup.
if acting doesnt work out have that waiting.
my backup is vet.
if you can stand up on that stage,get a reaction from the audiance,and love the feeling of makeing people happy,
then you know its something you love.

You've taken the first step: getting hooked on it.

Yes, it's a hard job, but ultimately satisfying. The nice thing is since you love it, you'll still get joy from doing it for little (or no) pay.

If you're looking at TV/film work, be aware that any any one time, less than 5% of SAG actors are working in any capacity.

The best advice I was ever given was, "If you can do something else, you'd better go and do that". Yes it's hard. Even Shakespeare and his troupe held other jobs. You'd better have something else you can do to actually make money because lord knows you likely won't see much from acting. If it's who you are then there's no dissuading you anyhow, but have other marketable skills or you might starve.

Well, a School Play is not going to be as hard as a real show or whatever; but, hey, thats the first step done.

You'll have to remember this too;
I saw a video of a character from Hollyoaks talking; and he said this:
Its hard learning all the lines because you get home at 7pm, have dinner, watch some TV, then its about 8:30 and you still have to learn a whole days lines!

So take that info in too.

It is demanding and low paying.
