Theres really no comparison, after seeing Rent on broadway and then on a normal stage, i never wanted to watch the movie again...there are more adult situations in the play version, but its an opperetta so its mostly all music...its SO amazing, i was in trance when i walked out of the theatre!

musical = much more music, much more intense.
i'd take the musical over the movie anyday. Live is much more risque than the movie. But the acting is better in the movie. You might want to consider your daughters age too. Under 12 should not be seeing it live. Just my thoughts.

well i saw it when i was 12. yes it seems like there is a song every five seconds. lots lots lots more music and longer. and i have to agree, the acting isn't always that good but the musical is way better.

i actually like the musical much better. it tells you more about the story and there was a lot cut out of the movie. i think you and your daughter will enjoy it
