That's a hard question to answer :P
....you usually have an idea on what people tell you..and also by your drama grades..(if you do drama in school)..like I know I used to be horrible..well not horrible..just not the best at acting at the beginning of last year..I got level 3's..now I am feeling that I am a bit more better..and I can see that I am improving because now I am getting level 5's (which was the highest for my year level) and not getting critisism by the teacher.

I suggest taking some acting classes in and out of school, they work wonders..take what I said above as an example..I improved over a course of a year tremendously..and that was just by the drama class I took at school.

I also suggest taking some dance and singing lessons..
as they are an advantage in the acting business...
for dance I suggest jazz as it is theatrical or ballet as it is the foundation of dance. Some schools I know actually offer "Musical Theatre Courses" where you sing for 45 mins, act for 45 mins and dance for the rest..the lessons are usually 2 hours...once or twice a week.

Try out for as many school plays as you can and also Community Theatre...community theatre looks great on a resume and is fantastic experience. You also learn how to deal with new situations as you are being thrown into an enviroment where you know no one and this is what acting is like, you never know everyone on set...but of course eventually you become like a family.

I hope this helped...
If you need some advice about continueing your acting career feel free to email me..i can help you with some agent things etc and tell you about them.

Trying out for plays helps. If you're getting really minute roles, or not getting one at all, you may not be very good in the director's eyes. If you're getting medium to lead roles, you're probably pretty good.
