Audrey is a sweet submissive who is dominated by her masochistic dentist boyfriend. All she really wants is to be Suzie Homemaker. She's a bit dim, but has a huge heart and actually is falling in love with flower nerd, Seymore.

You better sing your heart out! Pour everything you have into it. Let's assume you can sing on key. My advice is sell it. Get a song together that expresses passion and longing and mean it when you sing it in the audition. Write the words out on a piece of paper and include marks where you need to take a breath. Treat the words like a monologue as a comprehension study. Once that technical stuff is done, set it aside and live the song in your heart.

Break a leg!

My best advice for first time auditionees is don't expect a role like Audrey. Audrey is the lead female character, has to sing and act, and requires a lot of training that a first timer is very unlikely to have. Go and have fun at the audition, but realize that everyone has to start somewhere and that everyone also gets rejected a lot. Little Shop is tough in that it is not a very big cast. I know some high schools like to involve a lot of people, so they do shows like Oklahoma, but Little Shop has a cast of about 15 max. For a summary of the plot, the movie with Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene is the best of Broadway-to-screen adaptations, very faithful to the original. Ellen Greene played the role in NYC, and I think one or two of the "Ronettes" also did the show on stage. Here's one tip: you may be able to convinve your director that the Ronettes do not have to be black. I did the show with 1 black, I white, and 1 Chicano Ronette.

I don't really know the story, but I have advice for you for first time auditioning. First, if you really want the main role, then read all about Audrey (the main character) and then for at least a day or two, play your life as if you were her. This will get you into character. And reading the play about two times is helpful too. The casting director of the play might ask you to do a cold reading, and you'll be prepared, and they'll be impressed. And even if you're nervous, its okay, but don't show it. If you can suppress your nervousness, it might show the director and producers that you have real good talent.

Hope that helps.....and good luck
