Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The first Phantom of the Opera musical was written by Ken Hill right?

Actually, you are correct. Ken Hill wrote a version in 1976 with an original score, then later restaged it in 1984 using new lyrics he wrote to classical arias. It opened in the UK.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is said to have seen the 1984 production and approached Hill to collaborate. Webber ultimately decided to write his own version with an original score. Webber's "Phantom" opened in the UK in 1986,

HECK no. lol. It was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

It was Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical was based off of a novel by Gaston Leroux. There was a movie version of the novel made in 1925.

Contrary to popular belief, there are actually many musical versions of "Phantom of the Opera!" Yes, the first was written by Ken Hill, and was Webber's inspiration for his version. Hill's is the closest to Leroux's story, not taking as many liberties. For what it's worth, there is also another, simply titled "Phantom" with the music/lyrics by Maury Yeston, and the book by Arthur Kopit.

yes first Ken Hill wrote a POTO musical then Maury Yeston (who titled it just Phantom) and finally Andrew Lloyd Webber
