Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I'm thinking Will Smith, Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts are all up there. What do you guys think?

Depp is technically a cut above most actors; Smith comes close because he works very hard. Roberts is not technically as skilled at acting as others--some that come to mind would be Streep, Sorvino, Theron.

I don't see how Ian McKellan would not be on anyone's list. Add Dustin Hoffman too.

And they must be putting something in the water down under, since Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and others (no I don't mean Russell Crowe nor that Crocodile Dundee wanker) from Australia seem to have limitless talents.

But I'm just looking at acting technique--how well does someone manage to play entirely different types of roles, adopting different accents and styles of walking and gesturing etc. If you're asking about who is someone's favorite actor, a different list comes up.

i agree with your list, but i might add tom hanks. good question though.

British ones are Judi Dench, stage and film, Helen Mirren and Maggie Smith.

Judi Dench!!

I agree with your choices, but would have to add:

Tommy Lee Jones
Anthony Hopkins
Robert De Nero
Ray Winstone
Judi Dench
Hillary Swank
Halle Berry
Cate Blanchett

Definatly Johnny Depp and TIM CURRY!

ferrr surreee.

XD

Bill Nighy, Kris Marshall, Keira Knightly, Hugh Grant to name just a few.

What about some kid actors like Miley Cyrus.

The 3 greatest living actresses are all from the theatre. Zoe Caldwell, Vanessa Redgrave and Maggie Smith.
Then we have Judi Dench, Hellen Mirren and Meryl Streep.
Johnny Depp Yes, Julia Roberts are you kidding?

Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Gerard Butler, Hilary Swank..........

Tom Hanks has back-to-back Oscars, but Meryl Streep has more nominations than anyone in history, male or female.
Try looking at Broadway for a few -- Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey, and Donna Murphy are just three.
And try thinking of people who aren't your age -- Ian McKellen (Gandalf from LOTR), Dick Van Dyke (from Broadway, Mary Poppins, and TV), and James Earl Jones.
