Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Songs for Little Women audition as jo?

Question:So I'm trying out for Little Women in a few weeks at a community theater. I have been listening to the music and I love it. I really want the part of Jo. I'm 15, but I look a lot older than I am, so I think I'd be right for the part. I have a good alto belt, but I can sing fairly high as well. I have a large range. But what I really need is a good audition song. Please help! Anyone have any good ideas that aren't from really popular shows like wicked, hairspray, rent, etc.? I would really appreciate it.

I agree that "I Want to Go to Hollywood" is a pretty good choice. It's from the musical 'Grand Hotel', but I doubt you will be able to find the sheet music. It's a pretty hard song to find. I'm glad that you request something not from the "popular" shows. Do NOT, no matter what you do, sing something from 'Wicked', 'Les Miserables', 'Rent', etc. I don't know how things are in your area, but one show that you could look at is "Thoroughly Modern Millie". I've only heard some of the music from that show, but Millie and Jo seem to be at least somewhat similar. They've both been played by Sutton Foster, so that's one thing they have in common at least. If and ONLY if 'The Sound of Music' isn't overdone in your area, you could sing "I Have Confidence". Maria and Jo have a lot in common. But if you run the risk of it being overdone, avoid it.

I only heard one of Jo's songs twice... but I thought of Defying Gravity from WICKED.

a good belty song would do well for jo try anything by sutton foster but mind you shes brillant so get a voice teacher to help you out so you do't hurt yourself. i would try hollywood by suttonits pretty much amazing and a good song to act to also
