speak for the character, never an actor. If a character is in drag, use (he/she) when "disguised"

unless you're talking about transexuals;

just ask. sometimes it can be hard to tell whats appropriate esp. when someone's a new tranny or just starting hormones. if you are sincere they will be grateful for the acceptance.

umm, if it's a she.. I would assume that you'd use "she" all the time.

when you know the gender of the character, then use the correct gender. You are in the position of the omniscient observer and that makes it the right way to handle this conundrum.

You should use "he" when it's actually she if you thinks she is a boy or when you dont want the person to be shown so you can use "he". Like, The person is kind. "He" is polite.

she

How does the person want to be addressed?

What exactly is your dilemma? Is this an issue for you personally?

If "she" identifies herself as a "he", so what?
