Before your audition, avoid dairy, chocolate, and any drinks or foods that are sweet as they will leave a sticky coating in your mouth and throat. Also avoid mouthwash that contains alcohol, since that will dry you out (especially if you are prone to dry-mouth when you get nervous.)

Just practice your song this weekend and on Monday and get to feel comfortable with it. Even record yourself singing it, so you can hear little things you may want to improve upon.

When you're at the auditions, talk to yourself in your head. Remind yourself that you know your song, you sing it well, and that you are prepared. The hardest thing to do at an audition is to not second guess yourself or your choices. Don't let your mind start to doubt what you've practiced or compare yourself with anyone else auditioning. Just do your song the same way you have practiced it. Don't change it at the last minute. Just keep talking to yourself to remain focused and calm and confident.

Here is some info on the characters in Footloose:

Ren McCormack (Tenor, Heavy Dance, 16 - 18)
Ren is seen as a young rebel always getting into trouble, but at heart he is an energetic young man who is dealing with the pain of his father's absence. He emotes this pain through his quirky sarcasm and by dancing.

Reverand Shaw Moore (Baritone)
Reverend Moore is the most powerful figure in Beaumont. He is a stern, strict, solemn man with a booming voice who runs the town with an iron fist. However he also has a tender side and is struggling with the loss of his son. (Singing is more traditional musical theater than other characters).

Ariel Moore (Dance, 16 - 18)
She is the preacher's daughter. At first glimpse it would appear that she is the perfect girl; beautiful, perky, energetic. But look closer and you will find that she is her father's worst nightmare. She is energetic, strong willed, sharp tongued, and aware of her sensuality.

Vi Moore
The strong-willed preacher's wife who holds the moral fiber of Beaumont in her upright stance. She feels she is losing her husband and daughter and doesn't know what to do. She ultimately is responsible for holding her family together after its terrible loss.

Rusty (Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18)
Ariel's friend. A bit of a ditz but knows everything about everybody.

Willard Hewitt (Tenor, Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18)
A simple country bumpkin with a warm heart and a big crush. He quickly befriends Ren and shows him the rules and regulations of living in Beaumont.

Ethel McCormack (moves well, 35 - 45)
Ren's mother. She is a strong willed, outspoken single parent who would do anything for her son. (Singing is more traditional musical theater than other characters).

Chuck Cranston (Dance, 16 - 18)
A motorcycle riding, foul mouthed, leather wearing, trailer park product who takes one look at Ren and realizes that there's only room for one bad boy in this town. He is dating the one girl that Ren obviously has a crush on, Ariel.

Urleen (Belt, Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18)
Ariel's friend. The smart one of the group.

Wendy Jo (Belt, Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18)
Ariel's friend. Doesn't say much but sure knows a lot about Beaumont and the town rules.

Lyle, Travis
Chuck's friends.

Bickle, Garvin
Willard's country friends.

Townspeople (roles often doubled): Cowboy Bob/Jeter, Principal Clark/Saloon Keeper, Betty Blast/Irene, Town Cop/Country Fiddler, Eleanor Dunbar/Doreen, Coach Dunbar, Wes Warnicker, Lulu Warnicker

Dance chorus (must also sing)

Break a leg on Tuesday! Please let us know how it goes.

I did have some good ideas bit the first answer is soooooo thorough! how is anybody supposed to compete with that?? but try singing through every note for a couple of seconds. it makes for a great song! break a leg and let us know how it goes.. and remember "always be confident, or else you really will end up breaking a leg!"
