Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How do I make cuts and blood with a fake knife?

Question:I am doing a skit where there is a girl who cuts herself and she drags a knife across her arm. I need somehow to make it look like she cuts herself, just have blood show up really when she pulls the knife across her arm. I'm thinking of just having the fake blood and running the knife through it but I'm afraid the timing wouldn't work and it would dry or something. What do you think??

There is a product that is probably exactly what you want. I have some ('m trying to find where I put it to get the company name and actual product name for you - but I haven't been able to find it yet.)

I always just called it 2-part blood. How it works... the actress playing the girl in your skit would put the powder part on her arm. On the knife she has to cut herself with would be the second part of the "blood." It's a rather viscus clear liquid, so the audience wouldn't be able to see it.

When the knife gets dragged across the skin that has the powder it creates the effect of blood. It's really quite cool, actually.

I need it for the show I'm in rehearsals for - so I have to find what I did with it - and I just saw it the other day.

Try doing a google search for 2-part blood - powder blood - anything you can think of, now that you know that this product exists. It wasn't very expensive, either, if I remember correctly.

I'll let you know details when (if?) I find mine.

The other thing I can think of which might work, is to find a red powder dye or food coloring and put that on her skin and use oil (cooking oil or baby oil) on the knife and perhaps it will have the same effect as the product I described above.

Good luck with your skit!

****EDIT****

I haven't found mine yet, but I have found it online:

Fun Stuff!

i would have long sleeves and then when she pulls it up to cut her self...cut her at the same time as u pull the sleeve up and put the blood there already...so its like this...she is wearing a sweater and then as she pulls the sleeve just cut herself and make put the blood there before the show...hope i helped

a sponge,
fill it with the red liquid you could put it in your pocket as long as the pockets not too tight or in your hand just remember to hold it loosely but also remember not to drop it so that when you need it you can press it on the side thats not facing the audience and squeeze it with your fore finger you might want to practice that to see how hard you have to squeeze the sponge to make it drip or how much itll drip...

i would use a make up sponge the triangle thingys you can get those in walgreens or walmart or big lots or wherever really

the cuts... eh cant really help there i guess you could draw it before the scene and cover it with a sleeve and when you cut yourself you pull up your sleeve hiding the 'cut' by bending your arm towards you until you need to reveal your 'wounds'
