You should really research Constantin Stanislavsky. He has a great method for becoming the character. It has to do with putting yourself in the situation. Basically you substitute something that evokes in you as the actor the emotion that the character is feeling on stage. There's actually a lot more to it than that, but you'd have to do the research and PRACTICE yourself. Also, Rudolph Von Laban developed a wonderful technique for capturing the movement of a character. You know how some people make very short sharp movements, or some people make large elegant flowing movements, Laban teaches how to use each movement to characterize who you are on stage. The way a character moves says a lot about who they are, so getting the motions down can really help you became the character. For your voice, I don't know a whole hell of a lot about voice, but I can give you a few names and websites that have helped me and may help you.:
Kristin Linklater - http://ci.columbia.edu/ci/subjects/arts/...
Catherine Fitmaurice - www.fitmauricevoice.com
Arthur Lessac - www.lessacinstitute.com

www.gbmc.org/voice has some good stuff on vocal mechanism as well as www.upmc.edu/upmcvoice.

I hope all this helps.
