The two scenes you have been asked to write about are two of the most powerful scenes in all of Shakespeares tragedies. The setting is Macbeth's castle in Inverness. It is night and there is no moon therefore it is pitch black and I am sure Shakespeare has painted this backdrop to let us know the blackness of the deed which Macbeth is about to carry out. Banquo who met the witches on the heath with Macbeth is much troubled by the experience and cannot sleep hen he meets Macbeth in the courtyard in the depth of night as Macbeth is about his bloody business of murdering the king, Duncan. Macbeth immediately has a conscience about this act and the truly evil person in the second scene is Lady Macbeth, the architect of the plot. She it is who produces the knife and cleans ther knife, Scene 2 is bloody and in some ways we start to see the madness of the Macbeth's emerging, "Macbeth shall sleep no more" Lady Macbeth is fairly calm and calculating, the hideous nature of Macbeth's crime is just hitting him. Moods are paranoia, Macbeth who believes he will be haunted forever by his deeds, blood, there was a lot of blood on the dagger, darkness, fear and concern ( Banquo). My advice is to use quotes from the scenes to highlight your essay and the pints that you make. Please also use a spell check to give your answers some credibility.

The simplest approach is to read it over and over, each time imagining the scenes in different ways until you find what that works for you. Then write about it. This may sound too simple, but that's what's good about it.

Remember, your interpretation cannot be wrong, as long as it's relevant to what happens in the (section of) the play, and that you can state your reasons for your choices in a logical and coherent way.

500 words isn't that long (which is part of the challenge)

Concentrate on the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and how it changes...examiners love this!!...x
