Question Home

Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Any good way to inprove my acting skills before trying out for play?

Question:The best thing to do to prepare for an audition is to be as familiar as possible with the play you're auditioning for. Check it out of the library and read and re-read it. If you know what character you're going for, really focus on that person's scenes and lines. Think about creating that character the way you would in class - how do they move? How do they speak? Any master gestures? What is their objective for the entire play? What are their objectives for each scene? How do they relate to the other characters? Analyze each scene as well, break it down. Go over the scenes so much you practically have the lines memorized.

The way to improve your acting skills is to get experience doing plays and in classes with good teachers. Practicing in front of a mirror or videotaping yourself is not going to help because you youself don't know what you're doing, so how can you judge or know what to do to make it better?

Good luck at your audition!

Practice in front of a mirror or someone you know so that they can give you tips and advice.

If you have any friends who are into acting, have them help you out. Also, when you audition, become a totally different person. Imagine how they walk, talk, and act. Project your voice, and enunciate your words. Good luck!

As you can see from the othr answers there really is not. Being in plays is the way to improve your acting. The more plays you are in, the more you will learn about how to act.
