Question:I went for an audition and the casting director said "It's for the part of a nurse. Have you any nursing experience?" I said "No., I'm an actress. Is there a script at all?" Elizabeth Taylor had no experience of being Cleopatra- What's going on here?

If the role is that of a nurse then the director wants to know if you have any knowledge of the field. As an actor you have to research the background of the character. It would have been a wise decision to not smart off, but reply that you have no actual experience as a nurse, but you are a quick study and would be willing to observe some nurses at work in order to prepare for the role.

People who perform roles that are in the medical field..example TV show ER usually have medical professionals on set as consultants to guide them on certain things or techniques that are performed in real life.

It's not an insult to be asked if you have any actual experience. Who knows the director may have actually been joking.

I guess they asked David Tennant if he had any experience of time travel at his audition.

No, but I have made a phone call using a telephone kiosk.
Is that any good?

thats the kind way of saying your too damn ugly. get over it.

Relax. Any director is going to want believability from his cast. Don't you think it's fair for a director of a Western to ask his principles if they have any riding experience? Isn't "can you swim?" a legitimate question if the filming is to be done at sea?

If the director had a choice between yourself, and another actress who HAD experience as a nurse, who do you think he'd choose?

I'll bet he did NOT choose the one who gave him attitude at the audition.

You are being asked to justify your existance - I do not think it unreasonable for someone to be asked if they have actually had practical experience of a role that they are auditionong for - It is the same for any job application - Just because you think you are an 'actor/ess' does'nt mean that you are not a member of the 'real world' where people actually have to sell themselves to get a job. Personally, I hope you don't get the part - you are obviously so far up your own a*se that you have become detached from the real world.

Well, they do cast for realism. If you have nurses training you will instictively know what to do (and it will probably bug the director who intends to tell you what to do)!

When you're auditioning, the answer to any question is always 'Yes'. Say yes, you used to candy-stripe in high school and then if you get the part, you do some research.
