Position:Home>Theater & Acting> If you're auditioning for a movie/t.v. show, does it cost anything?

Question:besides travel expense.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: besides travel expense.

No, absolutely not. Legitimate auditions will NEVER charge you. It wouldn't make sense - if they're looking to hire you, why should you have to pay them?

Managers and agents on the other hand do cost money, but the legit ones will be members of their respective unions and will go through the contract with you carefully.

NOT UNLESS THEY REQUEST HEAD SHOTS-PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS

Absolutley, positively NO! If it's legit, they pay you even if it's non-union. They ask you for $, get out of there.

Unequivocally NO. There would be no reason EVER for there to be a cost involved in any legit audition, period. End of story.

If however you were signing up for something like to be an extra in TV and film, that's different. There is generally a fee involved there. You are usually signing up to be with a company (this is not an audition, but you are registering with a company and the fee covers something like keeping your photo in their computer or something). Also, if you have an agent, although you do not technically pay them a fee up front... their fee comes off the back end. They would get a percentage of what you make, generally 10% for SAG agreements.

Your travel expenses should consist of gas money and parking. There is basically no pilot season this year with the writer's strike still going in full swing.

Also, if someone ever approches you at a mall or other such place and tells you to come to a 'free' audition but then tries to lure you in to paying for expensive classes and photo sessions... they are a giant scam trying to take your money, run the other way and don't look back.

I hope that answers your questions,
