I would think about something or someone who has really hurt you. Possibly, think of someone who you have lost in your life. If these fail, grab an onion and cut it. LOL!

think about something that makes you sad

I would think of something really sad that makes you cry everytime you think of it.

Clandestinely pinch yourself.

Make the text of the play real for you, react to the circumstances that your character has experienced DO NOT THINK OF SOMETHING SAD IN YOUR OWN LIFE it needs to spring from the life of the character.

memories an bad ones

basic eye drops. right before you go on stage, put in the eye drops, blink, maybe think of something sad to add to the effect (you are acting after all...) and voila!
