Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How do I get into the acting field?

Question:I asked a similar question yesterday, but I'm afraid it was misleading. I love to act and have been in many shows, and I'm thinking of making it my career. I live in Minnesota, which is great, but not exactly for acting. I really want to start building my acting resume now, but my parents don't want me auditioning for shows outside our own community, let alone getting an agent and going to LA. It seems that most successful actors begin at a very young age. Would going to college and then beginning an acting career make it too late to become a successful film actress?

Studying drama at a good college will increase your chances of a successful acting career. If you've been in many shows, then you're already building a resume. You should keep on auditioning for plays at your school and at any professional and community theatres that are close enough to home to satisfy your parents. When your parents think you're old enough, you can apply for apprenticeships and internships at summer theatres in your area. When it's time for college, apply to schools with good theatre programs. You'll benefit from the training, from the stage experience in college shows, and from the professional advice your professors will be able to give you.

StaRT WITH LOCAL THEATER.

you might want to go to your local box office and tryout for a musical you like! (i'd suggest legally blonde the musical!)

No, I have the same issue as you...I love to act but my parents won't let me go anywhere outside the community...If u go to college you could major in it and that looks great on a resume...plus you don't have to go to college in Minnesota...try to get in somewhere in LA or New York...when your at college your parents can't always hold you back...plus acting programs at colleges can get students great gigs on broadway and stuff! Good luck!

I don't think so..Kathryn Joosten who plays Mrs. McCluskey on Desperate Housewives just started acting in her 50's!
Go for your dreams! You will regret it later in life if not!! I'm from Minnesota as well and interested in acting!! I hope all goes well!

definitely stick with your local theater to start out. then go to college and start your carreer if oyu work hard and love what you do you're all set. break a leg

i dont think ur late :) i guess you should sit down and talk with your parents thats what i did and they said it would be ok,i wish u the best of luck :D and im a fan yeah!

start with anything you can get...if there is a community play, audition.

agents don't have to be in L.A. just contact an agency in your town and they'll ask for a tape. this should be a sample of your best acting.

usually if they think your unique and they don't already have someone on thier roster ( a list of the actors signed to that agency) they'll sign you.

then you can start out with extra work/ tv commercials

remember it's never too late to start there are plenty of roles on tv that are written fo people over 6. : )

remember this is a very shallow business and for 99.9% of the time your success has very little to do with you personally.

but don't get me wrong its fun and fast paced so good luck!
