Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Why was "A Chorus Line" significant in the jazz/musical world?

Question:It let a group of people tell their story. It gave a voice to the chorus, who are sometimes treated like little more than moving scenery, a chanse to talk about themselves. Most of the characters are veterans. They don't hope to become stars because if it were going to happen it would have already. They're just auditioning for one more show so that they can live for a few more months. Sad, but true, and hopeful...

A Chorus Line is the collection of stories of Broadway "Gypsys". A Gypsy is someone who moves from chorus (ensemble) to chorus in Broadway shows. (Here's a link to great website about Gypsys http://www.actorsequity.org/AboutEquity/... The musical "A Chorus Line" finally gave a voice to those people. There isn't a "star" or "one singular sensation" in the show...it is the effort and work of the team that makes the story. Also, the dancing is excellent. Here's a couple of reasons
1 -- It was a true chorus musical with a star very difficult to pick from the cast.
2 -- It won the Pulitzer Prize
