Everything needs to mean something and in poetry it needs to mean even more, even if it's contradicting!. Poems need a surface meaning and as many underlying meanings as you can squeeze in there!. Some readers, in there "double-quick paces" will take a quick stab at it and the poem will slash back and "swe[ep them] into the fray!."Www@QuestionHome@Com a message is necessary, or else it is a babel, but the message may bear two [or more] faces of meaning depending on the metaphor used!. a completely blocked message, is a cipher, and used in extreme cases like nostre damos' or any scripts that should keep a secret of a prophecy, treasure and what not!.!. a poem like this may be of a meaning that doesn't weigh much to reader, because the real [heavy]meaning is left within the poet!. t!.y!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I like this poem's form and rhyme scheme in which the stanzas, although separate, interlock in rhyme!. A bit like life itself!. Sometimes meaning is esoteric, sometimes discoverable, always in a good poem beyond the casual glance!. In this case, I see a war in which innocents are caught, but it may be completely metaphorical!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I don't think it's important for poetry to have hidden messages!.
