Question: I need help with Sonnet from the Portuguese XIV!.!.!.!?
If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only!. Do not say
"I love her for her smile--her look--her way
Of speaking gently,--for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes* brought * certainly
A sense of pleasant ease on such a day"--
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee,--and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so!. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry,--
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou mayst love on, through love's eternity!.

Questions I need help with:

1) In your own words, explain what the speaker in this poem is asking her beloved to do!.

2) For what things does the speaker say she does not want to be loved!?

3) What is her reasoning for this request!?

4) For what does the speaker request that she be loved!? Do you agree with her argument!? Why or why not!?

10 pts!. will be given for the best answer!!! Thank-you!!! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

where she says "Do not say" then she lists of the things she does not
want to be loved for!.
3) This is also easy the answer is also obvious!. "For these things may be changed"
4) second to last line she say "But love me for loves sake" theres the answer for the first part!. You have to answer the rest for yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
