I've thought about different cultures and times, to answer this, and can only come to one conclusion!.!.!.there has always been a Great poem for any given culture!.!.!.Epic of Gesar for the India subcontinent, Epic of Gilgamesh for the Middle East, in other words, all cultures had what they thought was the greatest for their times!.
For America!? No!. Not yet!. There isn't a great American novel yet!.!.!.what times will bring these about!? It won't be peaceful times!.!.!.thus!.
