What Did I Do Wrong!?
I was only 4 weeks old
that day you brought me home
a scared and sivering puppy
abandoned and alone
you promised to take care of me
you told me you'd be there
but i didn't know these lies would come
and you don't even care
i'd chew on your shoes
and pee on the floor
but you'd just smile at me
and open up the door
we went through lots of training
but it didn't seem to work
you'd tell me it's okay
i'm just a stubborn little squirt
the weeks flew by
i was growing so fast
but those days are over now
oh how i'd wish they'd last
but i was growing older
and i lost my puppy ways
i saw you growing bored with me
and hoped that it was just a phase
i remember that day you looked at me
with hate-filled master's eyes
you chained me up and brought me here
then left with no goodbye
they locked me up in this tiny cage
and looked at me with fear
i overheard them talking
they knew i wouldn't leave here
the kittens are appealing
the rabbits are to cute
the hamsters are athletic
and ferrets are a hoot
"an older dog just has no chance"
"he'll die soon anyway"
their conversation made me mad
i had so much to say!
I'm not that old!
only 7 in your years
i knew they'd understand me
if my words could only reach their ears
but still i sit and wait
as endless crowds pass by
they don't even notice me
or hear my painful cry
today they came to get me
and led me to this room
they layed me on a table
cold as an empty tomb
i almost didn't notice
until they took the needle out
now the liquid's coursing through me
and i don't feel a bit of doubt
the lights grow dim
my breath grows short
but i dont say a word
cuz i'm not the whining sort
as i draw in my last breath
i know it won't last long
but i only have one question
