I think so!.!.!. but we can direct stuff we do know about, our own vocabulary of experience, towards that sense of transcendence of the mundane that people refer to when they say something like "that's pure poetry"!.

But I've to agree with the others that duty isn't quite the perfect word choice: it's more modus operandi than duty!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not exactly the duty!. A poet is above the mundane duties!. However, the poet is alke the anonymous legislator of the world and that necessitates the poet to set new rules of ethical behaviour and suggest a new approach for the welfare of the humankind!. Poets are the conscience-keepers of the world and their duty is towards their own higher consciousness that impels them to create poetry for the human beings to point out what is ethically humane, right and wise as also to reject what is inhuman, unwise and morally repugnant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think poets have any obligation to express anything specific, but if you mean by 'things whose names don't express themselves perfectly' intangibles like love, then yes, poets can express those concepts!. But duty!? No!. They can write about anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Duty !?

when the words become an obligation, I quit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
