The Raven is literally about death and how it clings to the man in the poem (most likely Poe himself)!. As a raven in real life is symbolic of death, so is the raven in this tale!. It leaves 'nevermore' because death will never leave the man!. The loss of 'Lenore' has affected him deep enough that he can never let it go!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Edgar allen poe himself wrote a paper on how to write poetry and he explained why he chose the word Nevermore in THE RAVen ,,,,he said something of the word sounding infinitely sorrowful or something of that sort but I'm not 100 percent sure of this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
