"Sorrow's Song" or "Last Lullaby"
In the forest deep, a song is heard,
A mother and her baby bird
They sang a ballad of joy and love,
Of beauteous birds flying high above!.
The tune would delight any ear
And surely conjure many tears
Then came a noise, so cruel and loud,
Swiftly followed by a large dust cloud
Surely it was a dreadful wrong,
To drown out such a pretty song
The noise came from a creature of steel,
Forest was his daily meal
The monster tore down every tree,
Every branch and every leave
The little bird began to shake,
And so the mother bird did say,
“Hide, my sweet, beneath my wing,
I will find another song to sing”
As the tree began to shake,
The mother thought to abandon her sake
But her baby bird, he could not fly,
And she refused to say goodbye
Instead she whistled a sorrowful tune,
And wished the horror to be over soon
The mighty tree fell to the ground,
Oh what a noise, oh what a sound
With it fell the birds, still singing their song,
The monster had committed a terrible wrong
The mother wept, oh how she cried,
As silently, her baby died
Still the trees around did fall,
The monster did not care at all
No longer is the sweet sound heard,
A mother and her baby birdWww@QuestionHome@Com
