Question: Will this do for a first volley!?
*****

Hone sharp the edges of your blade,
make hard your iron cannonade,
bring horse and hand upon the field,
how terrible, the force you yield,

Bawl and bark and scratch the earth,
while deep within you comes a birth,
a hard, unholy testament,
of foul and bilious excrement,

Come dance around the roaring fire,
be careful not to join the pyre,
Unless the thing you want is flame,
so be it then, begin the gameā€¦

Yes, it will DO indeed! It's sharp and it's terse!. I am eagerly waiting for that game to begin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not too bad!. It's a shame you don't write like this more often!. Well, without committing myself to further indulging you in your posturing for the children!.!.!.

The game's afoot, I hear the call,
but I will not be held in thrall
to someone else's tuneless dance,
or waste my skills on games of chance!.

His challenge may seem "off the cuff",
but I am made of wiser stuff!.
His words rehearsed and kept in store,
not written after, but before!.

And so the game is all a sham,
he postures, preens - who gives a damn!?
His target laughs full in his face,
at Richard Brotbeck in disgrace!.

At least I've had a laugh this day
at TD's salvo, gone astray!.
Missed with his first futile volley,
thus I leave him to his folly!.

A ditty written in seconds after I pressed the answer button!. I cannot take you seriously!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This looks to be a poets' duel,
With words that bite and sound so cruel!.
One thing would be much better yet,
Both write your verse as a duet!.

It can be done it is a fact,
And done with grace and also tact!.
A challenge that is not a fight,
To bring new verses to the light!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This one leaves me wanting a few more stanzas!. But, as you say, it is a first volley!. It feels like the beginning of a very excellent epic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh lord the guns of warring fire
and everyone is wrong or right,
