Question: The Easter Uprising of 1916 - what do you think!?
written again for school - what's your opinion!?

THE EASTER UPRISING OF 1916

This uprising
Was the first major uprising
Many of this tale
Sing

Patrick Pearse
Was their fearless leader
He said , “Let's do this,”
And, “Let's meet here!.”

What was the point!?
Of this rebellion
To gain the support, they say,
Of the Republican

Pearse knew this mission
Was terribly suicide
“I like others will be shot down,
But I want to know who is on our side”

“POBLACH NA h-EIREANN
THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT
OF THE IRISH REPUBLIC TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND”
He read that day, and so it went

His speech was not greeted well
An icy silence was met
They walked away
Their support he could not get

It was almost hopeless,
So he thought
What can we do!?
To get what we sought

They went ahead
To continue this fight
They wanted to show the government
Who was wrong and who was right

They captured many buildings
For example, the GPO building on Sackville Street
But the British cut off Dublin Castle
A dismal group did they meet

But they still fought on
They held their ground
Stood back up
For each round

They never had a chance
A week this went on
The British were caught off guard
But soon they caught on

They pulled in a gunboat
Brought in more artillery
Shot down any person
Said they, “Together fight we!.”

Casualties high
On both sides
So on the wind
This sad story rides

All together
Missing, dead,
Civilians, and soldiers
Four thousand eighty-four it was read!.

Not just because of shooting
Or because of the fighting
But also fires
That the British were lighting

They thought that it would help
Use less ammo
But as time raced on
They became to know

The fires got out of control
Killing so many more
Hurting every person
In every darkened door

It took a whole week
For this sad event to end
So many more years
To set hearts on the mend

The leaders were captured
Had false trials
Taken out to be shot
After having gone so many miles

Spectators were upset
Sure, they're criminals
But false trials!?
Many rebels were set free to appease these calls

Even thought the attempt failed
The Republicans attention not gotten
It did start people thinking
Their freedom that had become rotten

It was the start
Of the Irish Revolutionary War

I find this poem in general excellent! You've really outdone yourself again! 10/10!

I love how you've taken my advice with the rhyming and use of emotion, however I find that you may want to take a look at a short play that focuses on the ordinary people during the times of the Easter Rising in the city of Dublin!. The play is called "The Plough And The Stars" by the Irish writer Seamus Heaney!. If you dedicate a small section in your poem to people that have suffered major losses due to the violence that the struggle for "Independence" had brought, you'd bring a tear to my eye =P

If you need any help on this play I'd be more than happy to assist you as I'm currently doing it for my A-Level English Literature coursework!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
