or totally miss the mark!?!?!?

"Whatever," I said when awakened at two
and tripped over two dogs in the dark
was wide awake so said what the heck
grinder I used for fresh beans

Husband fumbled into kitchen
scratching his sack with a questioning nod
weak shrug of shoulders I sent him back
one of us might manage some sleep

The dogs, confused, thought it time to eat
standing by food bowls looking starved
them, too, I sent back to bed and wondered
"what am I supposed to do now!?"

Coffee in hand I snuck out to back porch
thought God and I would talk while I smoked
funny I hadn't noticed how badly that door
creaked, dogs barked, husband still snored

it's three hours later and still quite dark
been quiet as a mouse so not to disturb
wondering if, when all finally get up
I'll be the one able to return to bed!.
