Question: What can a poet teach the world!?
Ars gratia artis!. (Rebel without a pause)
By Jellz Fisher 081102

Poets of the scholarly mode
forever may you write
Ad nauseum, eternally
Express with all your might
formatise, hypothesise
in sonnets, long and loud
Dot the "I's" and cross the "T's"
in tone that makes you proud!.
Never let the story
ever inhibit creative juices
Set free inspired imaginings
(we know, they have many uses)
May form and poetic structure
be your hallmark brand device
(But to see you write in free form
on occasion would be nice!.)
Write as if poetic reputation
were at threat
Defend, protest, give it your best
observe response you get
Be nice to those not in your "league"
(they learn from you, you know)
At poetic end, the best my friend
write words and let them flow

All splendid advice!. I hope to see you at my next posting!. As to your question: The poet can teach the world the language of inanimate things; the poet can teach the world the language of things for which there are no words, but paradoxically only through that great deceiver words; the poet can teach the world how to hold on tightly to what it loves, even while letting it fly away!.!.!. for the rest, I have no words!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Poetry is the ocean, the sky, the Universe!. It can be all things or anything!. Trying to define it is like a critic attempting to critique a Rembrant or Picasso, certain things can never be categorized and formulated!. Does a poet need to know the craft!? Yes I would agree but never get caught in the trap of having to make everything 'correct' to fit some past standard!. Jellz, a nice write, free form and one that carries meaning!. According to page 34 of English Basics, this probably does not qualify as a poem! lol Just kidding!.!.!.its a poem to me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I get the impression that you more or less wrote the first eight lines in the white heat of inspiration and then had to work a bit harder with the rest because, to me, with a couple of exceptions, it doesn't seem to flow quite as freely after this!. However, it is a worthy attempt, and I look forward to your revised and improved version when you get around to it!.

What can a poet teach the world!? Well, in my case, the answer would have to be!.!.!.humility!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Jellz!.!.!.!.you are a delight!. I love this kind of poetry!.!.!.for its rhythm, its (seemingly) easy rhyme and for its content!.!.!.saying something weighty but in a light and fun way!.!.!.!.what is that 9 beat/6 beat style called!?!.(which you sort of stick to) Is it 'just' (oops, sorry Elaine) iambic pentameters on two lines!? I read somewhere that i!.p follow the natural speech patterns of English speakers!.!.!.maybe that is why it flows into our brains so easily!.
Rebel without a Pause!.!.!.!.he, he, he

My contemporary / abstract artist pals studied Art History for 8 years in HS and college !.!.!.!. and today , what they "create" is their personal "evolved" works stemming from this knowledge of The Great Masters before them!.!.!.!. it's fundamental they say!.

One bud cuts his "theory" "Making Art Work"!. He plays with blocks of marble!. Huh!? !.!. yet ask him how Rembrandt cleaned his brushes!.!.!. he'll tell you!.
