I got my paper and pencils yesterday!. I’ve been staring at them for a few hours now!. I knew when I finally reached for them I would start to tell my story!. Tomorrow may not come!. It’s Tuesday and it is probably dark outside!. In here, it is dark all the time!. I write in darkness, even now!.

When I shot him, he stood perfectly still as the smoke turned upward from the back of his jacket!. His mouth shaped itself into a smile and his eyes were closed before he hit the ground!. I waited for the blood from his wound, but it never came!. I walked up to him and turned him over with the barrel of the gun!. The bullet went in and out; holes in his chest and back!. No blood!. I waited!. I kicked him in the wound!. I stood on his chest!. I sat back against a bank of snow in front of a cluster of Birch trees and lit a smoke!.

I shot him again from where I sat and he lurched forward, his arms flailing in the snow!. I scrambled backwards into a tree and raised myself up!. He was standing now, the second bullet hole smoldering on his shoulder!. He tore his jacket off and lunged at me!. I shot twice and he went to his knees, laughing!. His lips were purple and no air escaped his mouth as he cackled!. This is it, I thought, the end of it all!. I smiled back at him and laid the gun down at my feet, a slight crunch of snow as the wooden stock hit the frozen surface!. A bird flew past, lazy and ignorant!. The sun waited!. I spoke!.

“Is this how it always happens, you get us when we’re alone!?”
“Not always, boy!. I prefer the whole family, but rules are rules!.”
His teeth fell from his jaw as he spoke, pushing through the snow near his boot!. He spit at me and laughed again, his hands on his hips!. I spoke once more, for the last time!.
“Why am I not afraid!?”
“You will be!. And I will come again!.”

Not long after I refused to speak, they took my paper and pencils way!. Some kind of punishment, I guess!. I didn’t care!. I still don’t!. It’s not too bad here, really!. The nurses are cordial and not afraid of me anymore!. Dr!. Selman shows up every Tuesday at 9 A!.M!. sharp and talks for about an hour!. I nod my head in all the right spots and bide my time!. After all, time is all there is!.
