first define the tribal self
in skin colour, language
religion, culture
add to that boundaries
of nation, city
village or street
and there you are:
out of place
a foreigner
the strange other
a moving violation
of tirbal differences

"Conceiving" here means "forming an idea of!." Understanding, basically!. The poem traces the process of forming ideas about strangers -- first you look at their race, what language they speak, where they're from, etc!.

"The stranger" is just that -- a stranger!. Someone that's unfamiliar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
