Question: Easy 10 points!?! analyze this poem for me :D only 4 lines!?
Dying Speech of an Old Philosopher

I strove with none, for none was worth my strife:
Nature I loved, and, next to Nature, Art:
I warm'd both hands before the fire of Life;
It sinks; and I am ready to depart!.

thanks in advance!.!.easy ten points!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Line 1: "none" refers to people!. He felt that no one was worth his time!. No one could understand him, as he was more intellectually gifted!.

Line 2: He loved Nature (read-Natural Law as a philosopher) most, and next to that Art!. The : mark at the end of line 1 indicates that line 2 is an explanation of line 1--he loved art and nature more than people

Line 3: he is satisfied with his life and what he did with it

Line 4: The "fire of Life" is sinking, meaning growing smaller, dimmer-his time left is getting smaller, he is getting older and expects to die soon; he is ok with this, ready to depart, he has no regretsWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's by Walter Savage Landor; he was famous for short, kind of sad, poems like this which are called epigrammatic!.
The poem states the author's attitude towards life and people!. He couldn't be bothered arguing with people because he was convinced he knew best!. He loved nature and art!. He really enjoyed living life to the full but now he is getting old and can't do all the things he used to he's ready to die!.
There, how's that!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It means he didnt walk with anyone in his journey of life, he preffered to do it on is own and he found noone good enough to accompany him!. Could mean he was in love, but it didnt work out and he never found anyone good enough!. He loved nature and art!. He had a good life and he's aware he's dying but he's happy to go!
