YES,RAVANA WAS A GREAT POET also!. HE VERSED
'SHIV THANDAVA STOTAM'!.

I am introducing here one stanza from his Strotam:

JATATAVEE GALA JJALA PRAVAHA PAVITHA STAHALE
GALE AVALBHAYA LAMBITHAM BHUJANGA THUNGA MALIKKAAM
DAMA DDAMA DAMA DDAMA NINADAVA DAARAVYAM
,CHAKRA CHANDA THANDAVAM THANOTHU NA SHIVA SHIVAM!!

The Gist of this Stanza in poetic translation
goes like this:-

"From the forest of his matted lock,
water flows and wets his neck,
On which his drum incessantly plays
dmat, dmat, dmat,dmat,
And Shiva is engaged in the very
vigorous manly dance,
To bless and shower,
Prosperity on all of us!."

Many people have a very bad idea about Ravana!. Ravan was a Bhramin by birth!. His father was sage Pulasthiya , one of the seven sages created by Lord Vishnu!. He was a highly educated person and learnt all the Vedas and was a great exponent of the musical instrument 'Veena' played even today in south India!. The story was that Shiva was so enthralled by his Veena recital and gave him so many boons!. He also tried to move Himalayas when Shiva was sitting on that with Parvathi and in punishment of this Shiva pressed his thumb and Ravana was imprisoned under the mighty Himalayas for years and he played Veen and did penance to get the mercy of lord Shiva and finally the Lord released him!. Ravana was also was an expert with all the Vedas!. Even when he kidnapped Sita h he never did any harm to her!.
