HIDE-AND-SEEK, 1933
by Galway Kinnell

Once when we playing
hide-and-seek and it was time
to go home, the rest gave up
on the game before it was done
and forgot I was still hiding!.
I remained hidden as a matter
of honor until the moon rose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think this verse, up to the last dot, could be taken as literal or metaphorical!.It may be very well applied to any game in life!. Should we mention war games, intelligentsia games, political games up to The Game of Nations!!? Its takes more than just knowing few simple rules to play!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To me, this is another non-poem!. It could be written as a paragraph, like the Journal Entries I post here for my 'writing course!.' The only hint of imagery is 'until the moon rose,' but this could be taken as fact!. The emotional toll on the narrator is understood in this piece; we see a chld walking home alone in the dark, but it would be just as well understood were this written as a prose paragraph!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well it brings up a memory, but not a very nice one!. My step-siblings found joy in picking on me as a child and I remember a time they asked me to play hide-and-seek with them!. I was so excited that they asked me to join (they usually never asked me to do anything with them)!. I found the perfect hiding place, sat there with a huge grin excited to be found!. I waited!. I waited some more!. I finally got the hint after about 45 minutes of being crunched in a corner in the garden!. They weren't coming!. They had me hide so that they could go off to the playground without me and told my stepmom I refused to come with!. I got grounded, they had something else to snicker about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I had a younger sister who I had to baby-sit all the time!.One night she wanted to play hide and seek!.I hid in the up-stairs closet!.She came along and latched me in for 5 hours until my grand-parents came home!.To this day I am afraid of small spaces!.That was 55 years ago an I still remember it vividly now that you brought it up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Interesting poem!. Simple yet really dealing with more complex ideas as pride, commitment, courage, etc!. An older kid put a leg lock around my waist once!. Despite pain, I did not give up as all my friends had!. I earned his respect as a result which at the time seemed worth the cost! lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

I am reminded of a time at the cottage!.!.!.I hid up in a tree!. They had no trouble finding me because I immediately started to cry when I realized I was terrified and could not move!. I can't remember how they got me down from that tree!.!.!.!.I think I was 5 or 6 at the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have heard variations of this theme from time to time!.
This looks like a pared down version of the message!.

"Until the moon rose!.!.!." seems out of place for me!. I don't know why!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just enjoyed the phrase "a matter of honor"!. What a beautiful thing - not often talked about - but often seen - in soldiers and heroes!. ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just remember never wanting the days to end and never wanting to go inside!.!.!.!.although dinner was usually the dealbreaker for meWww@QuestionHome@Com

I feel like a dittohead!.
Must ditto Elaine!.
TW2008 seems to have better quality, but that's just my own opinion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
