Question: Do you have memories that you wish you could keep, but also change!?
It felt like a thousand pounds of canoe
pounding my shoulders and I wondered
when the next smoke would come
I had Johnny light me one while I wobbled
through unevenly packed
hard dirt paths
not knowing that four miles of anguish was ahead!.

Seventeen years old and we didn't
have a clue but we were determined
to find out and we had more drugs
than food and more cigarettes
than wisdom
and we made it to the top of the cliffs
that overlooked Korb Lake!.

A bowl of glass in the BWCA
150 miles from anything real
we pulled out the sheet like postage stamps
with a red star on every tab
"Tripled dipped" he said
and Steve said that was even better
than double dipped and there were nine of them
and I ate my three as I watched a fish jump
and later I figured on eating that fish
but later was irrelevant and we smoked weed
and pretended like we were doing
something monumental!.

Hours scoured away the day
we swam near the water
without getting wet and the cliff
was a 50 foot drop
the edge of a knife!
We knew better
we knew nothing
we got lucky
and when we were finally coming down
from it all the sky turned
into a green curtain and then blue
and then both
and two of the three cried while I failed
to convince them that yes, God was real,
but no,
that wasn't him it was
The Northern Lights and we smoked
the last of the weed
and the next day we saw some humans
in a canoe
that weighed less than a thousand pounds
and they said they had never seen anything like
last night's sky
and we knew then that maybe it was God
but we refused to speak
because our tongues would not cooperate
and our lips had been raped by
L
S
D
and youth
and fear!.

This story in poetic form is filled with detail and imagery!. It engages the reader from beginning to end!. The last four lines illustrate the strength of the boys' feelings--the violation by drugs of what should have been innocent and fearless!.

don't want to change the one where while on the above medication, I sat in a field full of daffodils and picked an arm load for my mom!. We were not getting a long, and the love and beauty i felt in those long minutes while sitting and picking were the closest her and i were able to come back then!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah!. I call them fantasies!. Yours sounds remarkably nonsensical, which means it is probably as close to the truth as you can recall!. I love the "we swam near the water without getting wet!.!.!." a feat only accomplished by Lsd or shrooms!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have bittersweet memories!. I want to keep them but sometimes it hurts to remember!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, such memories are etched into the memory fabric which, by time, tends to change in shape, texture and color; changing, thereby, the very memory image(s), producing a bit of a lie, justified by the refinement needed for rendering a vividly glazed picture!.
To promote the old picture without any makeup (lie), as you 'v done, takes guts and lots of digging, enough to make you feel "like a thousand pounds of canoe pounding my shoulders"
As for the poem, its an excellent narration with a sense of confession (in the end) leaves no room for a lie in the preceding lines!. Its just excellent!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that is a very enlightening poem!.!. something self experienced as well!. It might help some of those people who smoke weed or take illegal drugs on a regular basis to think twice about what effect they can have!.!. It's a message and I am sure you learned from experience if you did try all of this when you were younger, so you shouldn't want to change things!.!. you want to remember as it was!.!. because that helped you in the end to see that you had to get over this, If you had had a fantastic memory about the taking of LSD or weed you might have gone on taking it because then it would have felt like a trip to paradise!.!. so I believe it was better that you saw it this way!.!. that made you stop and realize that this is not a solution!.!. and we are all entitled to be young and make mistakes, we make mistakes when we grow older also!.!. the main thing is to learn from something that wasn't right and not to repeat it!.!. I think you help some other people to think twice about taking this stuff!.!. so it's good you were honest about it all in your poem!.!.!.xxWww@QuestionHome@Com

I only tried that once at the drive-in watching a crazed John Belushi drive his motorcycle, frankenstein and his bride do scary things O o,I think many have seen that movie Rocky Horror Picture Show!.For a long time my mind then saw imagery in technicolour, for years in fact!.At the time all I saw was the world like fun house mirrors, really nothing special,so never did it again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i wouldn't change a thing!. the memory you wrote was heaven!. my mind remembers this little old lady standing in front of a wood cook stove, cooking a good meal!. she had a fine electric one but she loved cooking on that wood stove!. she calls out to me for more wood!. i run to do her bidding, out in that cold german snow!. when i come in she sits me down and wraps me with a warmed up blanket and pecks a small kiss on my face!. oh shoot!. i am crying!. my grandmother!. may she rest in peace!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

And I thank Mixtli for being your muse on this one!.

Wow!.!.!.such a story teller you are to be able to bring us right into the haze and canoe and youthful head with you, to allow us to experience it as our own!. I'm so grateful you survived the drugs, the edge of the knife, youth!.!.!.!.and now to conquer fear!.
