I love to visit foreign lands, to sample their cuisine and learn about their customs!. There are a couple of places which I have found particularly inviting, and I return to them as often as possible!. After enough visits, I feel like I belong -it's like a "home away from home"!. Don't ever feel that you were an impostor just because you felt more at home someplace else!. There are, after all, those of us who have been beneficiaries of your "tourism"!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It has always been an almost enjoyable experience to meet new cultures, except perhaps for meeting the North Vietnamese in 1968!. They kept flinging projectiles and chemicals at me!. But I always felt like I was ready for home!. The beach culture in Los Angeles was about the most hostile one I have become acquainted!. I felt I needed to absquatulate as soon as possible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I went Coppicing for dormice (don't ask!) once, a whole day cutting back trees, and building woven branch fencing!. The group I joined were all old friends!.!.!.!.they spoke to me only when I spoke to them first!.

But, perhaps, if I had persevered and returned a few times more they would have opened up their ranks and let me in!.!.!.in fact, I'm sure they would have!. I gave up too soon!.
In your case I would say you don't have to be fluent to enjoy the experience of being some-where new!.!.!.!.as long as the natives are friendly!!! Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I moved to Utah I experienced a new cultrue like I've never experienced before!. I've had to learn to bite my tongue over mere words or to reword what I would normally say!. I found that you have to go to the state run liquor store for alcohol except beer and that many supermarkets do not sell cigarettes, which is fine by me!. It's hard to find something as simple as coffee or a large variety of teas!. Many people wear LAYERS of clothing, in order to remain modest, even in 95 degree weather!. I rarely see women and girls wearing tank tops let alone spaghetti strap tops and some won't even wear shorts unless they are not of the LDS faith or have fallen a bit from the church!. Their family values seem far better than those in CA, but you do see a lot of 18 year olds getting married and 20 year olds with at least 2 children!. By the time you are 25, you are pregnant with your 6th!. Sex is bad until you get married and then it's suddently GOOD, have MANY children and it's confusing for the poor girls!. At least they are married before having babies, but like any American culture, that's not always the case!. Some adults won't even go see a PG rated movie! They beleive in good family values, helping others in need and are the best networkers around!. Yet, I too do not speak their language!. The language of the LDS church and the teachings of Joseph Freakin' Smith, their profit and author of The Book Of Mormon!. They are not completely foreign to me, but while I fit in as a non smoker, non drinker who doesn't like coffee (except Starbuck Vanilla Frappucinno!), I still find their "language" and beliefs something that was not meant for me!.
