Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It used to be two words instead of one!. It didn't become one word until the early 20th century!. If it's an old poem, it's probably just what was normal at the time!. If it's a new poem, they're trying to make it sound/look like it's old!. I'm including a link to dictionary!.com!.
