War is hell(Sherman) keep your friends close and your enemies closer (Lao Tsze) Blessed are the peacemakers, or I come not to be bring peace but a sword (Jesus, depending on the Gospel) I haven't read enough Plato to speak intelligently, and the common folk of the the world, all warning of nuclear annihilation, war, to watch for the signs!. I've never been a fan of cummings before now, but I guess I've grown enough to appreciate him more!. I think him is all of us, in our unaware mode!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is about war!. What did Jesus & Plato teach about war!? What did Lao Tse!? What did General Sherman say about war!? (google search 'General William Sherman' and 'war' for a start)

Did the character in the poem listen!? He went to war!. What happened to him!?!?

You need to know a little about history to get the last part of it- to see how he died!. Learn about how the US sold steel (including scrap steel) to Japan prior to WWII- "nipponized bit of the old sixth el"!. (El is an elevated train-like in Chicago) What did Japana make with the steel!?

That is plenty of a head start!.!. good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com

Anyone who has ever stood under the Sixth Ave!. El can understand this somewhat!. Cummings spoke often of WWII and the horrors being perpetrated there!. I believe the elevated train rattled him enough to believe in the end of the world by nuclear disaster!. I also believe he is speaking to us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I struggle with who the main character is in this poem, and I am left with the feeling that Cummings had someone specific in mind, a jab at somebody the reader does not know!.

It is very plainly an "I told you so" without the teller taking all the credit!.

And war, of course, always the damn war!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think its a universal message to any brick-head president adopting stupid foreign policies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not being a fan of E!.E!., it sounds to me that he is saying he smoked on toke too many!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This one is just vapour trails to me I'm afraid!. Sixth Avenue could be in Thailand for all it means to me and what is E1!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
