Question: Are you personally acquainted with addictions!?
Addictions

They begin so
innocently
first taste fits
perfectly fine
then, just for
sheer pleasure
nothing more
you return
to taste some more!.

Then it becomes
a comfortable
routine, a habit
that nicely threads
into your day!.

Soon a requirement
needed to function
all will be well
as long as
throughout day
you know where
to find your
fix!.

Line now crossed
there's no
turning back
a CRAVING
it has become
forget innocence
sheer pleasure
nothing comfortable
about routine
nor habit
one fix
no longer
satisfies!.

Give it, give it
give it now,
you hear every
fiber
of your being
SCREAM
lion pacing
in its cage
growing angrier
at his need!.

Self-destructive
fatal addiction
you never knew
its taste
you'd hunger
now withheld
detox for you
and a lobotomy, too
to forget
its savory hold!.

My beloved, intelligent and talented late husband suffered a slow death from alcohol!.!.!.nothing I did or tried made a bit of difference!.!.!.he finally won the battle on Oct 26, 2001, the day he died!. He won because Jesus said,

Addicted to cigarettes for years, finally quit!. Alcohol and drugs was never an addiction for me, although I am addicted to writing poetry for lovely ladies, and being there for them should they need me!. Addictions are all the same and at the same time different!. The common thread is that our mind thinks we cannot function with whatever it is we are addicted to!. Once we can get past that, we can beat any addiction!. As for my poetry addiction, I will never be cured, I like it too much, and enjoy doing it as well as the after effects!. I shall pass to the afterlife still addicted!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Very nice writing Ma!.

My one friend and I haven't talked in 6 years because she continues to use!. It was her choice to not talk to me!.!.!.not the other way around, but one thing that I feel you captured was the lion pacing in the cage!. I am not a big poetry fan but that was extremely accurate and well said!. You covered every base with out being pretentious or long winded!. That shoul be stapled to every pack of cigs, bottle of booze, bag of weed, foil of coke, much more powerful than the govt!. warnings!. And it is a lot better than the hacky preachy commercials they use to!. And to anwser your question yes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

your words describe, to me, what an addict must feel!.!.!.but it is just as hard or harder for those of us who have had one in our lives!. You want so much to help and can't!. Hard to let go and watch them fallWww@QuestionHome@Com

in the corner, sniffling, itching, clawing at open sores, a shadow glued to the floor, scrapes his brain for the next hit from the last time

I sent you this before!.!.!.having known a woman who eventually came to know me as number two in her life, and looking back, hard to believe I spent nine years of my life trying to change her!.!.!.

I was in a deep dark hole once
drank myself thirsty, called out for more
for help from inside
heard footsteps approaching
nice light-footed ones
a lady!? come to rescue little lo' me!

Threw down a rope - I grabbed hold
pulled that sweet thing right on in
she was loaded!
Stayed there for nine good years
until one day the spring was gone
bitter drink - bitterness ensued!.!.!.

Then more footsteps
heavy this time
down dropped a long ladder
another climbed in and what a pleasant sight!
more good times ahead for all
disappeared along with the way out!.

Finally a million-year sleep
after wrestling with words
no more warmth or comfort there
leaned abit and the bottle tipped over
crawled right out, and stretched
and yawned!.!.!.
