I think this (the tone) largely depends on the type of poetry that is being written - that the tone is usually affected by the mood of the poet while he is writing and how he or she really feels about what they are writing about!.!.!.!.

you can sometimes tell (no matter how many literary devices they use) when a person is just writing to write something or if it is a true expression of their feelings about something that happened or someone - that is why I have such a dearth of poems in my collection - it is easy for me to snap off rhyming lines about anything but the truly good poems are those that pour forth from our soul - where our emotions write the words - when you are in that mode you are not thinking about the hyper-boles or the similes - you are just pouring out your feelings and then rearranging the words until the order of them of them seems right!.

This is probably not good advice for a new poet as when you are just learning to write poetry it is probably important to understand and practice these literary devices!. After you get some practice though just go with your instinct and if you are true to your feelings the tone of the poem should be there!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
