Question: Have you watched a child struggle at the beginning of life!?
I glance towards the plastic tomb
unreal to me
this living flesh with red skin
and yellow eyes, it waits
for the thunder of a mother's cry
the pacing of a father's silhouette
on the hulking wall,
"She's smiling" they say
to each other and prayer
is a random noise from frightened lips
and nervous hands, hands
that are scared to touch!.
The nurse arrives and they refuse
the child's coffin
and claim it a home
until pink flesh and turquoise eyes
recognize the world
as it's own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sadly, yes
cold night
"Baby Doe"
brought in by cops
laid in big crib
tubes,wires connected
abandoned
as 4 sets of eyes
watch over
the plastic covered
crib and wonder
is there
a God!?
and
"Baby Doe"
battles for life
in a cold
hard
world

That sounds like a premature baby with Jaundice!. I've had 3 of them so that's what it reminded me of!. It is very dramatic for a parent! I had a set of twins in Maine and back then we didn't have ultrasonic so it was the biggest surprise of my life!. They were premature as well and to see them, tiny, helpless, and trying to survive is about as terrible as terrible gets!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

36 years ago I stood before such a tomb
as I watched the nurse shape and mold
my first born's head, shaped oddly like
a football, tilted slightly to the left
a victim of then barbaric procedure
"deep-set forceps delivery"
now wisely outlawed in our country
medical science has advanced
but pencil lined scars remain
to this day along both temples shown
as well as grand mal epileptic seizures!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This has DPM all over it, for me (deep personal meaning that is)!.
My first son was purple for about a month after he was born and stayed at Children's Hospital his first two months!. That was the hardest place I've ever had to be in!. They had a baby in there I could have held on one hand!.

Good piece--you struck a chord with it that's for sure!.

Strange concept!. It is not a coffin, but a substitute womb until the child can become accustomed to the outside world!. I have never known a mother who was awake at the birth, who did not 'claim it' even before 'it' was separated from her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes i have!. I use to work in nursery at the hospital!. Standing there watching a preemy baby try to breath!. then when its breath stopped i would have to do a little thump on its feet to get it back!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
